you think Victor should not change.
Victor should change. Victor and Karina arguing. KARINA: Victor, life is different now. Times have changed. Everything has changed. The question is will you? VICTOR: Karina, back home it wasn't like this. But maybe you're right. I should help you with your work. KARINA: With dinner? VICTOR: Yes. KARINA: And the dishes? VICTOR: Oh, wow. And the dishes. DANCE STUDIO Karina, weary, having just finished teaching a class, walks into the lobby where a few other students are waiting for their next class. Among the students are SUE BLAKE, the HUD agent extraordinaire from Episode 6. Sue stands next to the REAL MAN from the Wrong Fork. She spots Karina. KARINA: (APPLAUSE) Nobody's late next week. Bye... Bye... SAMANTHA: Bye. SUE: Karina! KARINA: Yes? (recognizing her) Oh, Sue! From HUD. Hello! Sue turns to the Real Man, also known as ERIC, and explains. I helped Karina with a housing complaint. This is my cousin, Eric. ERIC: Hi. SUE: We're going to take dance lessons. Are you taking classes, too? KARINA: I teach classes here. SUE: Oh, how funny! ERIC: Really? Can we take your class? Karina says no more. Sue understands. SUE: Um, so -- how is the new apartment? KARINA: Well, to tell you the truth, things aren't going very well. SUE: Really? What's the problem? KARINA: Well, there's no hot water and the manager is not a very nice guy. The door slowly opens to reveal...LYLE GREEDO, amidst a cloud of dank cigar smoke, looking self-contented, chomping on his trademark half-chewed cigar. LYLE: (KNOCK ON DOOR) Yeah? SUE: Sue Blake from HUD. Remember me? LYLE: I don't know. Maybe. SUE: It seems that the Pushkins are having a problem with their hot water. Do you know anything about that? LYLE: Oh...Yeah....I've been trying to get a plumber to come down and -- SUE: I don't believe you for one minute, Mr. Greedo. You get someone in there to fix it pronto. If you don't, you'll be in hot water. LYLE: But -- SUE: No 'buts'! If they don't have hot water by tomorrow, the next apartment for rent around here will be yours! LYLE: Have a nice day. Karina and Sue have coffee. KARINA: Thank you. SUE: I'm serious, Karina. Call me if your water is not fixed by tomorrow. KARINA: I don't know how to thank you for all your help. SUE: I'll tell you what. If you can teach me how to dance, that will be all the thanks I need. KARINA: Then you are in luck. I will make you a great dancer. I promise. SUE: I can't wait! I'll see you Tuesday. SUE (CONTINUED): Oh, by the way. I thought you'd like to know...my cousin was very disappointed to hear you were married. Bye. KARINA: Bye. Sue fires off a smile. Karina smiles in return. Karina stops in front of her door. She thinks about all the work, and the man, that waits within. She puts her key in the door and TURNS. Victor and Max, WEARING CHEF'S HATS, set the table. While Victor is obviously inexperienced in this role, it is also obvious he is trying. Victor sees her. VICTOR: Super Max. There's a beautiful lady at the door. Remember what we practiced. One, two, three. Go. Max, playing a role he and Victor must have rehearsed, rushes over to his Mom. MAX: (trying his best) Welcome to Max and Victor's restaurant. Would you like to dine with us this evening? KARINA: (thoroughly charmed) Yes, I would! MAX: Come right this way. Max takes her hand and leads her to the table, which is already set. Karina exchanges glances with Victor. Karina sits down. Victor comes over to the table with a bottle of wine and pours her a glass, playing the part of the elegant waiter. VICTOR: Welcome. We have many specials for you tonight. KARINA: I can -- oh, I can see. Victor goes to the stove and brings her a bowl of soup. VICTOR: Please, you must start with Max and Victor's super-duper soup. MAX: It's super duper! Karina takes a sip as Victor and Max watch. KARINA: Mmm! It is super duper! VICTOR: Ah! But this is just the beginning. Victor starts to return to the kitchen when there is -- A knock on the door. VICTOR (CONTINUED): Who is that? We did not expect other guests. (ANSWERS DOOR) Yes? VICTOR (CONTINUED): Yes? LYLE: Hi. VICTOR: Please, come in. Victor steps aside. Lyle enters a few steps, glares at Karina and Max - especially Max, and heads to the bathroom. And then Lyle is back in the living room. He holds a METAL VALVE. It all took about fifteen seconds. LYLE: I just want to tell you I, uh, I fixed your hot water problem. Max looks up at Lyle, this big man with a big wrench, a valve, and a scowl. He walks up to him and tugs at his pants. KARINA: Thank you. LYLE: And I'm sorry about what happened. MAX: (trying his best) Welcome to Max and Victor's restaurant. Would you like to dine with us this evening? KARINA: Welcome to Max and Victor's Restaurant. Would you like to dine with us this evening? Lyle is totally caught off guard. He doesn't know what to make of this little kid being polite to him. He looks over at Victor, confused. Lyle looks over at Karina, confused. LYLE: What? VICTOR: Yes. Why not. We are neighbors, eh? Let us be friendly neighbors. Please. Sit down. MAX: Please sit down. Victor motions for him to take a seat. With trepidation, Lyle does. He's not used to people being nice to him. LYLE: I've never been invited to dinner before. KARINA: Then we have something in common. This is my first time, too. (with a 'you're gettin' some tonight' look to Victor) But I think I could learn to like it. MAX: It's super-duper.
