Alejandro and Ms. Gilmore enter. MS. GILMORE: So, Alejandro. Are you ready for your first day? ALEJANDRO: Yes, I am. MS. GILMORE: Good. I wanted to give you Joe's information. ALEJANDRO: Great. Who is Joe? MS. GILMORE: Joe was the assistant manager at La Adelita, but now manages Lozano's when I'm not around. If you have any problems, Joe can help you. ALEJANDRO: Great. The restaurant personel are very busy and music is playing.... ALEJANDRO: Carmen, please put out the placemats. CARMEN: OK ALEJANDRO: Paul, it's time to open the restaurant. Please unock the front doors. PAUL; OK (Stops sweeping and turns to open the doors.) ALEJANDRO: Pavel, please cut the vegetables for the salad. CUSTOMER: (Speaking to Carmen) I just don't believe this. I don't believe this. We have been waiting here for 5 minutes and this table still hasn't been cleaned. We don't have all day. ALEJANDRO: (Overhearing he walks up to the customers) Sir, mam, I'll have this table ready for you in a minute. Excuse me. (Turning to Carman)Where's Trung? CARMEN: I don't know. CUSTOMER: I've never had such bad service in all my life. Why don't we just get out .... (conversation fades) Alejandro goes outside to find Trung reading a newspaper. ALEJANDRO: Trung, what are you doing? Get in there right now. There are customers waiting! TRUNG: I am taking my break. ALEJANDRO: I didn't say you could take a break! (Trung looks away and shrugs) ALEJANDRO: (Continues) Get off of your seat and go in the dining room and clean off the table. TRUNG: You were a bus boy, you know how to clean tables. You go in there and do it. Carmen comes out; CARMEN: That couple is really upset. I think they are going to leave. Alejandro runs in, grabs a cloth and approaches the table and customers. ALEJANDRO: I apologise sir and ma'm. I'll have this ready in a few ... there you go. Please have a seat. CUSTOMERS: Bring us two cups of fresh coffee. ALEJANDRO: Yes sir. TRUNG Comes back in the door as Alejandro prepares the coffee. Carmen stands in the doorway ALEJANDRO: There's your coffee sir. CUSTOMER: It's about time. (Customer points to wife's cup) Is this decaf? ALEJANDRO: I'm sorry sir, did you say decaf? CUSTOMER: Wern't you listening? (Very angry) YES!!! (Turns to wife) I've had it up to here (points to throat). Come on, let's get out of here. Come on. MS. Gilmore comes in the front door ALEJANDRO: I'm sorry sir. CUSTOMER: I'm sorry too. Come on. ALEJANDRO: But, really, I am sorry. CUSTOMER: (Turns to Alajandro pointing his finger, very angry) I'll tell you what. (shouts) We are never coming back here again. NEVER! ALEJANDRO: But ... sir, I... Ms Gilmore turns to Alejandro and says hi to Trung TRUNG: (Very happy, approaches from the back with decaf coffee) Hello Ms Gilmore! Alejandro, why did you pour his coffee. I'm the bus boy, you're the Assistant Manager... Trung pours Ms Gilmore's coffee TRUNG: Decaf straight black, the way you like it Ms Gilmore. As Ms Gilmore frowns and walks past Alejandro. Alejandro looks disappointed. TRUNG: So, how was your day? MS GILMORE: Well, it is not what I had planned. .... trails off....
